Crop, Slice, Karate Chop Your Way To Better Looking Photos…For Free

I love Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom. It’s intuitive, feature-rich, and so easy to use (for some people). But purchasing the photo editing software can get on the spendy side. Good thing there are a lot of free alternatives! FotoFlexer and LunaPic are some examples of free sites that amateur photographers can go to for basic photo editing tools. My favorite though is Picnik.

Picnik is a photo editing site that offers an assortment of tools such as:

  • cropping, resizing, and rotating photos
  • adjust colors, contrast, temperature
  • create a collage, print, and share photos
  • add effects, texts, stickers, and touch-ups
  • and a whole lot more!

One of my favorite features is being able to create effects (think Instagram). Below are a couple photos effects I created using Picnik (note: click on photo to view larger size):

Original: Seattle Chinatown
Effect: Warm, aged glow with a fade to create a 1960’s look.

Original: Pike Place Market
Effect: Black and white with a color filter to emphasize the sign “Pike Place Market”

Original: Seattle Waterfront/Pier
Effect: Cross process to create more interesting colors and contrast.
